A piece separated from the entire environment 
and seen only as a piece does not exist and 
cannot be expressed except as only a piece. But 
its entire existence is its dependence and 
interrelatedness to its environment. It is the figure 
to the ground and vice versa.

Therefore, in all cases, the ground or underlying 
structure of a situation provides the conditions 
for experiencing anything that presents itself as a 
figure. “The personality structure of each 
individual changes the way each of us experience
